Dan Savage (Savage Love, It Gets Better, American Savage) calls John Shore “America’s preeminent non-douchey Christian,” and John’s blog “a must-read for anyone, Christian or otherwise.” Rob Bell (Love Wins, What We Talk About When We Talk About God) has declared Mr. Shore “awesome,” and “a brilliant writer.” “John Shore is a gadfly,” wrote famed theologian John Shelby Spong, “calling the Christian Church everywhere to act the way it says it believes about love and justice, which of course makes him an uncomfortable presence in those churches that do not like to be forced to face reality. So were the prophets of old. So was Jesus of Nazareth.”
John is the author of UNFAIR: Christians and the LGBT Question, I’m OK-You’re Not: The Message We’re Sending Unbelievers, and Why We Should Stop, Penguins, Pain, and the Whole Shebang, and Seven Reasons Women Stay in Abusive Relationships, and How To Defeat Each One of Them. A popular blogger for The Huffington Post, John also founded and wrote the 14-point tenets for Unfundamentalist Christians (the group blog of which is here). The Progressive Christian Alliance has ordained him a reverend. Visit him online at JohnShore.com, and on his Facebook fan page.
Wayne Besen is the Founding Executive Director of Truth Wins Out, and author of Anything But Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth (Haworth, 2003). In 2006, Besen was recognized in the Advocate Magazine’s “People of the Year” issue. In 2009, he was named in Instinct Magazine as a “Leading Man.”
Besen has appeared on leading news and political talk shows including: the NBC Nightly News, ABC World News Tonight, ABC’s Nightline, ABC’s Good Morning America, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, MSNBC News with Thomas Roberts, CNN’s Talk Back Live, CNN’s The Point, CNN’s AC360, Fox’s O’Reilly Factor, FOX’s The Sean Hannity Show, and Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Prior to founding TWO, Besen served as a spokesperson for five years with the Human Rights Campaign. He also worked in corporate communications for Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, and served as a press secretary on a U.S. Senate primary in Maine. In 1992, Besen co-founded Sons & Daughters of America (SDA), a gay and lesbian public awareness campaign based in Fort Lauderdale. Besen graduated from University of Florida in 1993.
Evan Hurst is the Associate Director of Truth Wins Out. Born, raised and still living in the South, he has spent many years in the LGBT rights movement, first as a volunteer and amateur blogger for various causes, then serving for two years as Truth Wins Out’s Director of Social Media and finally recently moving into his current position as Associate Director. He has also contributed to The Advocate, The Memphis Flyer and as a recurring humor writer at Wonkette
Evan is also both a singer/songwriter/pianist and a classically trained concert pianist. His first EP (acting in the singer/songwriter/pianist role) will be released this summer, with a full length record coming soon after. Details to follow! He’s too busy for a husband, but if you’re the right guy, he might be persuaded to make time. Finally, his dog is named Lula, and she is a very, very good girl who deserves all the belly scratches and snuggles she gets.
